Hi! I’m David Szelpal - a Hockley-based woodturning artist. Welcome to the story behind David’s Woodturning Ltd. I’m all about turning pieces of wood and drops of resin into something special for your home. Think of cutting boards, bowls, and lamps that catch the eye and spark conversations. Here’s a little peek into my world and how I got started with woodturning.
A LITTLE ABOUT ME
Ever since I was young, making things has been my thing. I started with wooden guitars and bamboo bows and just kept going. Growing up didn’t change my love for building and creating; it just made me want to try even more stuff. That’s when wood and resin caught my attention.
LEARNING BY DOING
I didn’t go to school for this. I learned everything I know by watching others and doing a lot of trial and error. I started small with wooden pens and gradually moved on to bigger projects like bowls and lamps. It was a journey of discovering what works and what doesn’t and having fun.
SHARING WHAT I MAKE
My workshop quickly filled up with all sorts of creations. So, I began giving them away to friends and family and, sometimes, selling them. That’s also when I decided to start a YouTube channel. I remembered how much I learned from others online, and I wanted to give back, share what I’ve learned, and connect with people who love making things, too.
